A Day On Set:
Shooting Rooftop locations with French model Nora Azz,
Styled by Ellie Dickinson of Topshop.
Hair/ Makeup and Photography by Laura Bloomer.
London embodies grace and elegance. While being a busy
major city, that reality is easily forgotten by the never far lush greenery and sense of rich culture.
Today we have access to all this from our rooftop location
in St James Park, Central London. Our team
consists of French model Nora Azz and Stylist Ellie Dickinson (reigning from Topshop glory).
Photographer/ Hair and Makeup are done by yours truly, Laura Bloomer.
I’m excited to invite you to the behind the scenes insights of what happens on a shoot! This first note is pretty common, and a life skill really! Success for today starts the day before. In other words – we need to ensure we are prepared! Some shoots will have months of planning beforehand; this will consist of:
Back to my shoot preparation, I pretty much like to leave NOTHING for the actual day except for me just turning up. In my preparation for a shoot day, I will make sure I have the following things done:
Scarves are a fashion accessory that can be spotted irrespective of the weather. According to quite a few members of our styling team, there are scarves for cold days and scarves for warmer days. Either way, scarves can be worn all through the year.
Scarves have a way of adding sophistication, class or a breezy and carefree vibe to your look. As an accessory, they are also versatile because they can be rocked by both men and women alike. They can be spotted around the neck, shoulders or as a head wrap. So, what are all the ways you might be able to wear a scarf? We have the perfect videos thanks to, Wendy's Lookbook and Wabosha Maxine.
Our selection of scarves is constantly growing. Feel free to click on each picture to shop the design or visit our Shoptiques store. The scarves, like all our pieces, have their individual stories from the various makers that supply us. Enjoy the stories, the entrepreneurial spirit and the designs we have available. More designs coming soon.
Until sometime in September, it's still going to be considered summertime. This is the time when many of us have a love-hate relationship with the weather (or at least for me who lives in Arkansas where it can get quite hot, I do). I love the buzz of people walking the city streets and the smell of fresh cut grass but a lot of us hate to sweat. Especially, when we have long thick hair and for those of us that have short hair, we often look for cute styles that suit us. That's what this blog post is all about: Cutsie styles for the Back To School/ Quickly Approaching Fall Season look you may want tips for.
For 2016, I say bring out the flowers. Both short haired and long haired women with different hair textures can pull this look off. Whether you are putting your hair up in a bun and putting flowers around it or we opt for the flower halo that are popping up in stores across the US.
The great thing about these flower halos is that they can be worn in various ways which gives you options. You can wear them down on your forehead and then around your whole head or you can wear them slightly up in your bang area or even to the side. PS: Women of various backgrounds and from different cultures have been wearing flowers in their hair for centuries. So we've selected a bunch of shots from Pinterest to share with you and spark some creative ideas in you on how you can wear them. Do checkout the original pinners from our board: Hair & Women and see what other fun hair suggestions they are offering.
Now, another great thing about these flowery looks is that if you see something that you like but isn’t quite you, you can make your own (video tutorial coming soon from team LHO).
I’m also seeing more and more brides that are using flowers for more than just bouquets and centerpieces for their wedding day as well. Another thing I’m finding and appreciating is that in 2016 no one is looking for that perfect look because we are realizing there is no such thing as "perfect" and that that's great. So there is no one way to rock the boho flower look, in fact we encourage you to make it your own. How would you like the flowers to sit in your hair?. So don’t worry about having every piece in place because it doesn’t need to be. Get rid of that Snapchat filter with the fake flower headpiece and opt to be original with your very own!
Another reason I am loving these looks is they are not only popular but they can be quite romantic for a night out with your special someone.

We are more than thrilled to announce that The Muncie Citywide Comedy Jam is back and better than ever. See you on the 27th of August and the historic Cornerstone Center For The Arts. Until then, you can enjoy some of our footage from previous shows and if your city/ town is hosting local events, be sure to attend and support the local scene in your area. It makes a difference. If you spot us at any upcoming events, stop by, say hi and take a few selfies with us.
The other morning I was running a little late to work (happens often). I had one specific pair of black pants in mind that I was just going to throw on really fast with the shirt I was already wearing. My floor, I would assume that quite a few women can relate, was absolutely covered in clothes. The clothes on the floor were the outfits that didn't quite make the cut and were just thrown down for me to "pick up later" (ha). Why couldn't I find THE black pants that I wanted though? After ten minutes of searching, it dawned on me, that more than half of my clothes on the ground were black and that maybe that had something to do with me not finding what I was looking for. Thirty minutes later I was fully dressed and rushing to work.
Happy Friday Small Biz Supporters,
Our boutique is on the road this weekend. We're headed to Kansas City, Kansas, for Taste Of Africa Fest. We hope to see you there and if you see us, come up and say hi & take a few selfies with our team. If you would like to partner with us for an event, do get in touch.
We would also like to extend a hearty thank you to Mayor Mark Holland, Jackie Carlson of The Office of Planning & Business Services & Elijah Njogu, Founder & CEO of Taste Of Africa Fest, Kansas City for inviting us back for a second year. Choosing to partner with a Small Business for such occasions is what strengthens Small Biz America. We truly appreciate the opportunity.
Good morning & happy Monday
(Yes Mondays can be happy too)
We wanted to let you know of the fun selection we have in-store that you can preview as well as purchase right off of our facebook fanpage, before they get on our SHOP ONLINE page on Shoptiques.
Also enjoy a little shout out from Ky-enie. He's our latest celebrity to dress. He was on tour with Richie Spice on the East Coast and after one of our team members reached out to him, he decided he wanted to rock one of our (soon to be released) Adisa Collection T-Shirts. Ky-enie hails from Jamaica! He composed Rain, one of the tracks from the Shottas soundtrack. Ky-enie, like the Adisa Family & many other celebrities are standing up and choosing to support, shop & invest in Small Business Enterprises. Have you??
Peplums are a great addition to your closet and the best part about ours is that they are one size fits a village (read as, they are to be tied on, almost like a belt, so they can fit plenty of body types).
So enjoy the looks, shop the styles and do Small Business America a favor and tell a friend about us. Shopping from a Small Business helps create jobs, so help us spread the word.
